# Roles

Explaining the different roles in the club.

There are four tiers of involvement in the club:

* **Core Team**: a group of 5-6 members that are responsible for leading the club’s initiatives (“Initiative Heads”) and growing the club. A President or set of Co-Presidents handle club-wide operational duties and the outward-facing elements of the organization.
* **Team**: club members that have leadership positions within any of the club's initiatives (101, Labs, Events, Talent).
* **Members**: individuals within the club who completed our comp. Membership is restricted to Harvard undergraduates; only Members can be promoted to the Team or Core Team.
* **Community**: current members of the comp class or students of Harvard’s other, non-College, schools. Have full access to the club’s public events and Discord.

# Promotions

By default, every Harvard student is able to join our Discord, come to any of our events, and participate in some of our initiatives.

But to move up in the club and enjoy our membership perks, you must become a Member. To become a **Member** or join the **Core Team**, we have a process for identifying and promoting individuals that are high-value contributors to the organization.

# Member

Becoming an official Member of Harvard Blockchain.

We promote a select number of club participants each semester to full "Member" status. We view this as more or less Harvard Blockchain's "comp" process.

### Benefits

* Makes you an **official member** of the club, which means you can put Harvard Blockchain on your resume. The club's Membership NFT serves as your “on-chain resume.”
* Allows you to move up in the club (eligible to join the **Team** and **Core Team**) and take on more responsibility in initiatives.
* Gain **voting power** over fund allocation, the future direction of the club, and more (see: Governance).
* Other **membership perks**, such as priority access to our dinners with guest speakers, conference scholarships, retreats, exclusive club merch, and more.

### Criteria

To become a Member, check out the [comp details](/) for this semester.

# Core Team

Being promoted from Member to Core Team.

There are 5-10 officers responsible for defining club vision, handling day-to-day logistics, and leading the initiatives.

### Benefits

* As the highest leadership position, you’re able to make the greatest impact on the club.
* Makes you eligible to be President or Co-President.
* Benefit from the club’s industry relationships and outward-facing activities.

### Criteria

* Ability to take on a higher time commitment (leading initiative, participating in governance, Treasury management, outward-facing activities, etc.)
* Past commitment to the club.
* Leadership ability.
* Strong industry background, crypto-native.

### Process

* There's no formal promotion process, unlike becoming a Member. However, Members can indicate interest to existing members of the Core Team.
* If there is a “gap” in the Core Team (want to start a new initiative, existing Core Team member leaves, etc.), the Core Team will approach candidates that would be a strong fit. These individuals have been highly active in the club, have existing positions in the club’s initiatives, or have otherwise demonstrated strong candidacy.
* The Core Team must unanimously agree to make an offer to a candidate—any member has veto power. Once they’ve been approved, the offer is made to the candidate and, if they accept, they immediately join the Core Team. Otherwise, the search process continues.

# Governance

### Harvard Blockchain Proposals (HBPs)

For the first semester of the club’s governance (“Governance V1”), all proposals will be initiated by the Core Team. Over **75% of the Core Team** must agree on bringing a proposal to a club-wide vote, ensuring that (a) it falls within the scope of the club’s on-chain governance parameters and (b) is not destructive to the club. This proposal and deliberation process is handled in the Core Team’s biweekly meeting.

When a proposal has passed the Core Team’s vetting process, it will go to Snapshot vote. The process will be a **5-day, simple majority vote**, where each Voting Member has a **single vote** (whitelisted Ethereum address on Snapshot). A section of the Discord server (#club-governance) will announce the proposal and be a site for deliberation around it.

Once the result of the Snapshot vote has concluded, the Core Team will act as executors of the result.

### Governance Scope

Proposals will initially focus on:

* **Use of funds** in the club’s Treasury, particularly those from BitDAO’s EduDAO. This includes grants, new initiatives, or the allocation of idle funds.
* **Club vision**, such as setting priorities for how the Core Team’s time should be allocated to best serve the interests of the club’s members.

### Membership NFTs

Instead of whitelisting Ethereum addresses, we’ll eventually transition to non-transferable membership NFTs. The governance power of these NFTs will “expire” and be replaced with a new one each academic year (starting and ending on September 1st). There are multiple reasons for this:

* **Greater governance flexibility**. Votes can include or exclude past members, depending on the topic. Roles can also be revoked.
* **Collectibility**. Each “season” of the club can have a different NFT design, which serves as a memory of the experience. Also allows for technological changes to NFT standards (e.g., programmability) as the industry progresses.
* **On-chain reputation**. A member’s wallet shows how many years they’ve been in the club, the different roles they’ve held, and so on. Useful to verify participation in the club for employment or other reasons.

### Treasury

The club’s Treasury will be a Gnosis Safe multi-sig wallet, of which the Core Team members are the signatories. At first, this will be entirely composed of the funds from BitDAO’s EduDAO.

# Talent

The best way for industry-leading companies to hire crypto-native talent out of Harvard.

### Overview

The Harvard Blockchain Club's Talent Network is our way of **matching Harvard students with work opportunities** in the industry. Despite Harvard's top-notch career services, there's not yet a resource for crypto-interested students to get their start in the industry.

We're fortunate to be partners with many of the industry's top startups, venture funds, and quantitative trading firms.

### For Students

If you're a Harvard student searching for work opportunities in crypto—internship, full-time, and everything in between—**fill out our** [**talent network form**](https://airtable.com/shrTgBHTFy6eVC1XZ). It should only take a few minutes and it will be the way that our partners can find you when they're seeking to hire talent from the club.

If there's an employer who'd like to connect with you, they'll either reach out on their own or we'll make the connection.

Be sure to also monitor the **#jobs** channel in our Discord! It's our way of letting the entire club know of new work opportunities.

### For Employers

Our database includes the desired positions, resumes, blockchain backgrounds, and more information about students.

If you'd like to hire talent from the Harvard Blockchain Club, reach out to us at **<info@harvardblockchainclub.org>** to request access to our database.

We also have a **#jobs** channel in our Discord where job and internship opportunities are distributed to Harvard undergraduates. To post a blurb for a position there, **fill out** [**this short form**](https://airtable.com/shr3IsV0GQFtENHI6).
